For a nice meal with someone special, visit The Porch on Long Creek, a destination that offers exceptional food and a stunning waterfront view. Ask for porch seating as the sun goes down. The menu is very much seafood-focused, but there are also other dishes available, including the best rack of lamb I’ve had in the area.

Captain George’s offers a great vibe and some of the best all-you-can-eat seafood on the East Coast. I love that the menu has a bit of everything, and they can accommodate you for a quick bite or a large party with the whole family.  This location, which has been present for more than 50 years, is definitely a favorite for locals in Great Neck.

Good food, a diner-style atmosphere, and a super affordable menu of foods all help to make Sunrise Café the perfect place for breakfast on the weekends or a mid-day meeting. This is a very laid-back location where they offer everything from fresh omelets to sandwiches.

The shopping center is conveniently located just five minutes from the oceanfront and features a unique collection of over 120 shops and restaurants. Great Neck is about 17 miles from Norfolk along Route 264, but you really will not have to travel far to have fun here. There’s tons to do and explore, including swimming, sailing, fishing, and kayaking. If you love the waterfront, Great Neck is a solid choice from the river to the bays and the open ocean. I cannot list everything there is to do and experience here, there just isn’t enough space! However, here’s what I recommend if you are exploring the area for the first time.

First Landing State Park spans a huge four miles and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s beautiful and offers lots of things to do, including fishing, biking, and hiking. You can also swim in the small beach area.

Great Neck Park is a well-maintained outdoor recreation center. There’s a playground, lots of open space, and a baseball field where games take place throughout the year. It’s also a good place to walk.
