For a nice meal with someone special, visit The Porch on Long Creek, a destination that offers exceptional food and a stunning waterfront view. Ask for porch seating as the sun goes down. The menu is very much seafood-focused, but there are also other dishes available, including the best rack of lamb I’ve had in the area.

Coastal Grill is a fun location with a nice, almost Colonial feel to it. It offers homelike dishes with a Southern twist. I love that the menu changes to accommodate the season here. This location, which has been present for more than 30 years, is definitely a favorite for locals in Great Neck.

Great Neck is about 17 miles from Norfolk along Route 264, but you really will not have to travel far to have fun here. There’s tons to do and explore, including swimming, sailing, fishing, and kayaking. If you love the waterfront, Great Neck is a solid choice from the river to the bays and the open ocean. I cannot list everything there is to do and experience here, there just isn’t enough space! However, here’s what I recommend if you are exploring the area for the first time.

First Landing State Park spans a huge four miles and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It’s beautiful and offers lots of things to do, including fishing, biking, and hiking. You can also swim in the small beach area.
