This is a very walkable, upscale, suburban area, with some smaller neighborhoods hosting events and community holiday celebrations. However, for the best things to do in Red Mill, consider these recommendations.

Back Bay Wildlife Refuge

Back Bay Wildlife Refuge is an exceptional way to spend time, whether you like to hike, kayak, or just watch nature. As one of the primary things to do in Red Mill and the surrounding area, most people will spend some time here. You can fish, boat, or bike. You can swim and have a picnic on a quiet afternoon, or relax floating
in the bay.

Red Mill Commons

When it comes to shopping centers in Red Mill, Red Mill Commons is one of the most prominent. There are some of the best restaurants in Red Mill here (and that’s not just the larger chains). This is a family-owned and operated farm with more than 50 acres of things to do. Your children may head here on a field trip for the educational opportunities! However, you’ll probably make this one of your favorite things to do in Red Mill for holidays, including picking pumpkins in the fall. There’s a full petting zoo and bird aviary here as well. Shorebreak Pizza – Pizza – 4.6 Stars - $$

It’s a pizza restaurant that’s also an excellent family-friendly destination for meals on school nights or drinks with friends after a game. The Ruben sandwich is excellent, but you’ll also find tacos and salads here. If you’re looking for one of the best restaurants in Red Mill for pool, football games, and treating the kids after baseball, head here.

Sage Kitchen – American – 4.3 Stars - $$

Super affordable and relaxing, Sage Kitchen is one of the best restaurants in Red Mill for gatherings. Having a birthday party here is great. Its menu is pretty diverse, offering everything from salads and poke bowls to Anderson’s Famous Chicken Salad Sandwich. Also, stop by for a wellness shot when you need a pick-me-up.

Whiskey Kitchen – Pub – 4.6 stars - $$

This fun and rustic warehouse-style pub is an excellent experience when you want comfort food, good friends to watch the game, and regional brews. It’s also one of the best restaurants in Red Mill for its whiskey cocktails – and a couple pack more of a punch than you’d expect. There’s also excellent outdoor seating.

FireBrew – American – 4.6 Stars - $$

FireBrew Bar & Grill has a bit more of an upscale feel, but there’s no pretentiousness here. In fact, there’s a self-serve wine station that makes it a more unique experience. The food is solid American cuisine like crispy pizza and burgers. It’s one of the best restaurants in Red Mill for its vibe. It’s relaxing, welcoming, and you’ll feel good bringing the whole family here.

Civil Libation Bistro – Upscale American – 4.7 stars - $$$

For a more upscale experience, where you’ll enjoy filet and martinis, check out Civil Libation Bistro. For the best restaurants in Red Mill for brunch, make this your go-to option. The cocktails are also excellent, and they are noted for using the finest quality ingredients in their American fare dishes. A reliable option overall.

Lucky Oyster Seafood Company – Seafood – 4.5 Stars - $$$

Excellent quality makes Lucky Oyster Seafood Company one of the best restaurants in Red Mill for seafood. It’s a rustic setting with a grill and bar area. There are some excellent happy hour discounts most of the time. It’s not all seafood either. Though the Bacon Wrapped Sea Scallops are hard to beat, the wings are excellent, too.

Jose Tequilas’s Mexican Grill and Cantina – Mexican – 4.6 Stars - $$

t’s hard to find anything better than a big serving of Mexican cuisine, and Jose Tequilas is the local favorite in the Red Mill, Virginia Beach neighborhood. There’s a fireplace and a private dining room, too.

The Egg Bistro – Quick Service Breakfast – 4.6 stars - $$

There’s no reason to go to a fast food location for breakfast when you can visit The Egg Bistro over on General Booth Blvd. It’s another of the best restaurants in Red Mill for weekend breakfast (and it’s only open for breakfast and brunch each day). Weekday meetings, weekend brunch with friends, or a late breakfast with the kids – are all good reasons to check out the Southern comfort menu here.

One of the best things to do in Red Mill, Virginia Beach, is to enjoy the outdoors. The Red Mill, Virginia Beach neighborhood, is only a short drive from the beaches and larger park systems, including First Landing State Park.  However, nestled into the community are numerous playgrounds, open green spaces, and walkable streets perfect for a relaxing day outdoors. Here are some of the best.

Red Mill Farms Park

Red Mill Farms Park is an excellent choice for getting the kids’ energy out. It’s a big playground with swing sets and ball fields. There is a shared-use path located here, adjacent to the nearby neighborhood. It’s also where softball tournaments take place each year. Located right on Sandbridge Road, it’s super easy to get from the park to other areas of the region.

Red Wing Park

Located a bit further away is Red Wing Park, a much larger, 97-acre park on General Booth Blvd. This is an excellent park for when you want to spend time outside. It’s also where the sought-after Cherry Blossom Festival takes place each year. If you live in the Red Mill, Virginia Beach neighborhood, you’ll want to be around in April and May for those blooms. The park itself has tennis, pickleball, volleyball, and basketball courts. There’s a Miyazaki Japanese garden here, the Bee City USA Pollinator Garden, a dog park, and a therapeutic cradle swing seat.

Princess Anne Rec Center

Princess Anne Rec Center is on Nimmo Parkway and is a large community rec center. There’s a pool here, weight rooms, and cardio programs. There are racquetball courts, a sportwall, adult billiards, a submersible wheelchair ramp, and an indoor play area, among other items, and many activities are available.
