What Really Separates One Neighborhood From the Next
The house matters, but around here the neighborhood decides more of your daily life than the floor plan does. A few things do most of the separating.
Water is the big one, and there is more than one kind of it. The Atlantic side gives you the Oceanfront, the North End, Croatan and Sandbridge. The Chesapeake Bay side is Chic’s Beach and Shore Drive. Then the Lynnhaven River reaches inland through Great Neck, Little Neck and Thoroughgood, where people have docks instead of dunes. A boat and a beach are not the same purchase.
Your commute is the next one, and it really comes down to which road you are on. I-264 feeds Town Center and the Oceanfront, while Northampton Boulevard and Shore Drive carry the Bayside end. If you are headed to Oceana, Little Creek or Dam Neck every morning, that alone narrows the list quickly.
After that it is the housing itself. The city runs from 1950s brick ranches in Aragona Village to new construction down toward Princess Anne, and the inspection bill tends to follow the year built.
