This place has become my personal sanctuary for morning jogs, offering breathtaking views that invigorate me.

As a residential planned development in the heart of the city, there are numerous things to do in Timberlake, Virginia Beach itself, and close to home. You really have some of the best features of Virginia Beach in your backyard, with so many close activities, and the beach is a short drive away. Here are some of the best ways to experience all that Timberlake has to offer within a short drive of this mostly residential area.

Mount Trashmore Park

Don’t be fooled by the name! This stunning park is actually well-known for what it is – a 165-acre park with two man-made mountains that are former landfill locations. Mount Trashmore is an ecological wonder. That’s especially true when you see all the things to do here. There are two playgrounds, two lakes, a skate park, a vert ramp, and a fishing pier – there’s just plenty to have fun with here. Fishing is permitted, but there is no swimming, no boats, and no wading allowed. You can kayak on nearby Lake Windsor.

First Landing State Park

Another of the area’s amazing outdoor spaces is First Landing State Park. It’s more of a rustic, outdoor-lovers park with a maritime forest and marshes that allow you to connect with nature. This Cape Henry beachfront park is where the colonists first landed in 1607, where pirates and military ships battled in the early 1800s, including through the War of 1812, and it’s where both Union and Confederate patrols took place during the Civil War. As for checking it out, visit the Chesapeake Bay Center where there are educational exhibits to learn. There’s also a pavilion, amphitheater, and 20 miles of trails to explore. There’s also a 1.5-mile bay beach. Note that it’s about 25 minutes from Timberlake, but well worth the drive!

This local eatery offers themed specials nights, including Monday Seafood Night, Tuesday Steak Night, Wednesday Wing Night, and Thursday Burger Night. They even cater to local events. Try the best-selling Cowboy Burger with Sloppy Fries, regular French fries, or sweet potato fries topped with homemade Sloppy Joe meat and cheese. Vegan options are also available.

Famous Uncle Als – Hot dogs – 4.6 Stars - $$

At Famous Uncle Al’s Hotdogs & Fries, you really get the diner experience. They have a range of hot dogs, but also packed-high deli sandwiches made your way. The location opened in 1985 and has been one of the best restaurants in Timberlake for simple, good meals.

This Island-themed bar and grill features Filipino and Hawaiian food like pancit, spam musubi, and a pu pu platter featuring coconut shrimp, lumpia, crab cake balls, chicken skewers, and wings. Located on Holland Road, just across the street from the Reyes Brothers Dominican Barbershop.
